Farid Hafez was born in Ried im Innkreis/Austria and lives and works in Vienna. He earned his M.A. and his Ph.D. at the Department of Political Science, University of Vienna and his M.Sc. in civic education at the University of Krems and Klagenfurt.
He is currently wirking as a researcher at the Department for the Philosophy of Law, Law of Religion, and Culture at University of Vienna, and lectures at the Department for Oriental Studies (University of Vienna). His researches focus on Muslim organizations in Austria, the role of Islamophobia in Austrian party politics and on the Islamic Council in Austria within the Austrian political systems.
Farid Hafez was awarded with the Bruno-Kreisky-Price for the political book of the year 2009 together with John Bunzl for their anthology “Islamophobia in Austria”.
Farid Hafez is Alumni of Session 440 “Immigration and Inclusion – Rethinking national identity” of the Salzburg Global Seminar und was a member of Network on comparative research on Islam & Muslims in Europe, a project of Le Groupe de Sociologie des Religions et de la Laïcité. He is a board member of CEDAR, the first European Muslim Professional Network.
